A POPULAR Kidderminster pub has been named the best in Worcestershire in an annual Campaign For Real Ale competition.

The Weavers Real Ale House, in Comberton Hill, was crowned the champion of CAMRA's Worcestershire Pub of the Year for 2017.

Each of the Worcestershire's four CAMRA branches' chosen Pub of the Year winners were visited in secret by judges to decide which pub should receive the county accolade.

The award was presented to landlord Dean Cartwright by Charles Ayres, area organiser of Worcestershire CAMRA, in July.

Nick Yarwood, Wyre Forest CAMRA branch chairman, said: "We are delighted that the Weavers Real Ale House impressed the judges and now goes through to the West Midlands regional round.

"There are a number of factors for pubs in the competition including quality of beers and ciders, atmosphere, service and welcome."

Mr Yarwood added: "Congratulations to landlord Dean Cartwright and all the staff for setting such a high standard and good luck in the next round.

"Who knows, they could potentially make it through to the national final!"

The Weavers Real Ale House was named Wyre Forest CAMRA's Pub of the Year in March for the second year running.
