A MOTORIST who threw away a parking ticket in a Kidderminster street has been fined for littering by magistrates in his absence.

John Thomas Wilde, of Woodbury Road, was fined £220 after he failed to attend a hearing at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Friday, November 17.

The case against him was heard in his absence and the court found him guilty of littering.

Nina Dorrell, prosecuting for Wyre Forest District Council, told the court how on April 5, Wilde was seen discarding a parking fixed penalty notice that had been issued to him moments earlier in respect of his parking in Callows Lane, in Kidderminster.

He refused to have the matter dealt with through a fixed penalty notice and the matter went to court also.

On November 17, Wilde was fined £220 in his absence and ordered to pay £249.81 in costs and a victim surcharge of £30.

Councillor Rebecca Vale, cabinet member for operational services, said: "This is another example of some incurring additional expense because of their anti-social behaviour.

"There is never a good excuse to throw litter in the street and we owe it to the majority of our residents who support our ongoing commitment to keeping the district clean and looking good to take action in cases like this."
