READERS have been saying thank you to their snow heroes – the people who went above and beyond to help them out during the bad weather.

Among those celebrated was Norman Baldwin, site manager at Pitmaston Primary School, who helped clear the school's grounds so it could open on Tuesday.

Sara Bream, acting headteacher, said: “Thanks to our site manager ‘Stormin Norman Baldwin who worked tirelessly; going above and beyond what was expected on Monday, in freezing temperatures, to clear the paths around our large school site to ensure we could open safely on Tuesday, one of the only schools who managed to do this.”

Wayne Brown wanted to say thank you to son Christopher Brown.

He said: “Well done my boy Chris!! So proud he spent his snow day from Witton Middle School gritting our road and helping clear drives.

"He had to make three trips with his sledge to get grit from half a mile away as it was the closest one! What an angel. He’s my little hero!"

Beck Meachem said: “R.J Ridley & Son! They got our car out when we were stuck at the old hills!

"Was just driving past and didn’t hesitate to help!!”

Josh Philpott said: “John Hadley from JWH diggers and groundworks, supporting emergency service staff to and from work during bad weather using his 4x4. Top man!!”

Debbie Hudson also said: “My other half John Hadley, MD of JWH Diggers & Groundwork’s who helped doctors and nurses get to and from Worcestershire Royal Hospital and also local district nurses get to their patients in their homes.”

Jean Armstrong wanted to thank Jason Downes and his friend Wayne who came to her aid after her conservatory roof collapsed.

She said: “After the first snowfall we woke to piles of snow in the conservatory because part of the roof missing.

"I phoned quite a few companies that advertised emergency call outs who said that they couldn't come out because of the snow.”

Sylvia Powell wanted to thank Tim Bird for helping out in St Peter’s.

Mandy Bird said: “Tim has gone out with his wheelbarrow rock salt which he bought and gritted our roads Rona Gardens and Caldy Avenue so we can all get in and out.”

Lucie Epstein said: “John Drinkwater for lending my husband his 4x4 on Sunday so he could get into the hospital for work. Thank you.”

Richard Brown said: “My team of St John Ambulance volunteers who have been supporting the Ambulance Service responding to 999 calls in our specialised 4x4 vehicles in Worcestershire.”

Sharon Joy said: “I want to thank Richard Morse for helping to get NHS staff into and from work in his nice big car ..snow hero!

"Also all the carers who went out and got to their calls making sure people were up, clothed and fed for the day.

"It was scary and challenging to say the least.”

Laurie Griffin said: “All Worcester Slimming World consultants who ensured that all Worcester Slimming World members could still get to their groups to weigh in - some opening their homes and some walked miles to get to their groups to open up as normal so that members could stay on track and achieve their Christmas weight loss dreams - truly committed.”

Sharon Townsend: “Droitwich community nurses for visiting patients on foot and car without any other assistance.”

Andy Faulkner said: “My snow heroes are my tradesmen who battled on to offer an emergency and repairs service for our Fortis, WM Housing and Rooftop tenants across our counties and beyond.”

Suzanne Beston said: "I am extremely proud of the dedication, determination and teamwork of my staff in making our huge school site safe; they have really shown how much they care about the pupils of Perry Wood.

"Our site manager, Bill Thomas, has worked tirelessly at all hours of the day and night, some staff have trekked as far as two miles to get here and we have even had parents volunteering to clear snow.

"I couldn't ask for a better team. We even had time to make a few snow angels!"
