TWO people were rescued and taken to hospital after a carport collapsed in Bewdley.

Emergency services crews were rushed to the incident in Muskoka, off Richmond Road, in Bewdley, at around 8.15pm on Wednesday night (December 13).

An elderly man and woman were rescued from the carport by firefighters, before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

A spokesman from West Midland Ambulance Service said: "We treated two elderly patients - a man and a woman.

"The lady was helped out from under the roof by firefighters. She was complaining of head, chest injuries and crews were querying whether she had a fractured leg.

"The man had very minor injuries.

"Both were assessed at the scene before being taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance."

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesman added: “We were called to reports of a plastic roofed car port collapsing last night.

"The two people were inside and the weight on the carport brought it down.

“We had to dismantle it and they were taken to the hospital for a check-up.”

Three crews from Bewdley, Kidderminster and Droitwich fire stations were sent to the scene, along with an ambulance and a paramedic officer.
