AN INTRUDER alarm has been fitted at Kidderminster Foodbank to boost security following a devastating burglary.

Worcestershire Telecare – part of The Community Housing Group - has provided the alarm system, with around the clock monitoring, after being saddened to read about the break-in, which took place overnight on January 3 and 4.

Thieves raided Baxter Church in Kidderminster, which houses the Foodbank, stealing a computer and cash and caused extensive damage - hampering the Foodbank’s efforts to help local people in need.

But the news prompted a swell of public support with business, organisations and members of the public offering help and donations to support the foodbank volunteers and enable them to get back on their feet.

Worcestershire Telecare, which is a not for profit organisation that supports older and vulnerable people remain independent, is the latest to come through with help and wanted to ensure the site doesn’t get broken into again.

The intruder alarm system has movement detection sensors with 24/7 watch carried out by their Kidderminster-based Monitoring & Response Centre.

Rupert Lawrence, Head of Worcestershire Telecare, said: “We were really upset by the news of the break-in and wanted to do what we could to help.

“The intruder alarm system will not only ensure the security of the Foodbank, but also offers protection for the volunteers who now have access to a panic button that is linked to our Monitoring & Response Centre”.
