A KIDDERMINSTER postman surprised residents by delivering in full fancy dress for a week in aid of his grandson who has cerebral palsy.

Paul Mudge dressed up as different characters each day last week (July 30 to August 4) in a sponsored challenge, where he raised a total of £1385 for his two-year-old grandson Freddie Hales and his charity Tree of Hope.

On his delivery run, the people of Blakedown were greeted by carbon copies of comedian Harry Hill, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Leonardo, Robin Hood, Popeye, a surfer dude and scarecrow Worzel Gummidge.

He particularly enjoyed portraying Popeye the sailor man on the Thursday but found working in the Hessian Worzel Gummidge outfit in the summer heat to be trialling.

Mr Mudge said the challenge was “absolutely fantastic.”

“It was very hot and hard work, but it was completely worth it.”

Mr Mudge and family are currently appealing to the Kidderminster Community for support in funding life-changing therapy for Freddie in America.

A fun day at Kidderminster’s Cue and Brew Sports bar which features Pool and darts games was recently organised by the Mr Mudge, which raised £1400 for the charity.

The next event organised by Mr Mudge is a sponsored car wash with the fire brigade at Kidderminster Fire Station on Saturday August 11 from 11am until 3pm.

Due to complications during birth, Freddie was born with a severe dystonic cerebral palsy which causes stiff arms, legs and core and had left the toddler unable to speak.

But the intensive three-week therapy programme would introduce Freddie to new exercises, help with his speech and eating, significantly improving his quality of life.

Paul Mudge said: "This would make a huge difference to Freddie's life.

"The whole family are very positive and excited for the future."

They are currently exceeding expectations and have raised nearly £6000 which includes online donations.

Mr Mudge added: It’s refreshing to see so many good deeds and love and support.”

“Freddie is a bundle of joy.

“He’s a jolly little fellow, easy to entertain, and has a great smile.”
