REGULARS at a pub in Bromsgrove say they have been left ‘wandering the streets’ since their local closed down earlier this month.

The Cross Inn in Alcester Road was the only pub serving the village of Finstall until September 2, when devoted patrons were forced to say one last cheers to their favourite hang-out.

Pub-goer Mike Matthews told the Advertiser: “The Cross Inn has been at the top of the hill for as long as I can remember. It goes right back.

“We’re a big community so there’s lots and lots of regulars wandering the streets now not knowing where to go.

“It has quite a large catchment area so we had the mountaineering club using the meeting rooms there and the local driving club.

“Myself and the other locals have planned various trips there throughout the years and we’d always make a donation to the Primrose Hospice whenever we went.

“I like it because it’s old-fashioned and I can take my dog which you don’t see as much these days. Now it’s all in darkness looking very sad and none of us know what’s going to happen to it.

“We didn’t realise how big a hold it had on us until it was gone. We’re like lost souls.”

Former customers of the inn, which was listed as a 'community asset' in 2016, are now appealing for an investor to bring their beloved pub back to life.

“It was a well-used pub so it could do well again under the right management,” Mike added.

Ei Publican Partnerships, which owns the site, confirmed The Cross Inn had gone up for sale.

A spokesman said: “As part of our on-going business, we do from time to time identify a pub that may no longer have a future in our estate.

“We can confirm that the current publican has left after giving notice and we are now in discussions to sell The Cross Inn.”

Details of these discussions are currently confidential.
