ELDERLY residents at two Bromsgrove care homes will be celebrating the queen's 92nd birthday with members of the public this weekend.

From 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 21 - which is also national Care Home Open Day - the team at Care UK's Chandler Court in Recreation Road will be opening their doors for a royal-inspired event.

Entertainment will include a visit from two therapy ponies, a barbecue, and basketball skills from children at Redditch Basketball Club. There will also be interactive sports sessions, weightlifting, and a 'Guess the Cake's Weight' game.

Joanne Gill, home manager at Chandler Court, said: “Care Home Open Day provides residents and the Care UK team with a fantastic opportunity to welcome the local community in to home.

"There is already a buzz around the home, as residents prepare for the big day.

"We hope that the people of Bromsgrove will join us in celebrating the Queen’s birthday and making this year’s Care Home Open Day one to remember.”

Visitors will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s guide, A Helping Hand, before the day is topped off with live musical entertainment from JDR Trio.

Breme Care Home in Providence Road will also be welcoming guests between 11am and 12pm, and from 2pm to 4pm, for a high tea party.

Residents will be dressing up in their finest frocks and handmade crowns, while visitors enjoy live entertainment and homemade cakes and sandwiches, promised to be 'fit for a queen'.

Home manager Rebecca Rudge said: "We are really looking forward to celebrating Care Home Open Day with our wonderful residents, their families and our local community.

"We hope it’ll be a fantastic day with fun for all."

The Care Home Open Day initiative aims to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
