A REVIEW into public-space CCTV has been launched in the district.

Wychavon’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee is looking at how CCTV is used in Broadway, Droitwich, Evesham and Pershore to combat crime.

CCTV is monitored centrally at the main Pershore offices and the system has been in operation since 1999.

The aim of the service is to prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime and to assist in the apprehension and prosecution of offenders.

Footage is regularly requested by West Mercia Police to help with both investigations and active incidents, and over 800 such requests were made in 2016, but Wychavon has decided that after 18 years of operation the service is ripe for review.

Members of the council’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee have been asked to look into the service further.

Cllr. Alastair Adams, chairman of Overview and Scrutiny for Wychavon said “We’re keen to know what people think about the service, especially if they have had first-hand experience or are from an interested group or organisation. So please share your views with us.”

The review team is inviting those interested in giving their views to a session on Tuesday September 26 – at 9am for 9:30am, at the Wychavon Civic Centre in Pershore.

Here they will be asked to share their experiences to help the review team to make its recommendations to Executive Board.
