A MURDER suspect has appeared in court accused of killing his father.

Daryl Sampson appeared at Worcester Crown Court yesterday accused of murdering his father, Robert Sampson, who was discovered with a head injury and a stab wound.

The 28-year-old suspect of Broomhall Cottages, Broomhall, Worcester, did not enter a plea to the charge of murder when he appeared before judge Robert Juckes QC.

He appeared in the dock of court one wearing a a grey sweater and jogging bottoms, the public gallery packed with onlookers.

The defendant was asked if he was Daryl Sampson by the clerk and replied 'correct'.

Richard Atkins QC, prosecuting, said: "He's charged with the murder of his father. Police were called to the incident in Worcester on Thursday evening last week at 11pm."

Mr Atkins said Robert Sampson was found to have a 'stab wound to his left hand side which was bleeding profusely'.

No application was made for bail by solicitor Mark Lister who said that barrister Adam Western had already been instructed in the matter.

He told the court a psychiatric report had been ordered and said a second post-mortem on Robert Sampson was due to take place on Wednesday.

A pre-trial preparation hearing will take place on Thursday, December 21.

Judge Juckes said: "I must remand you in custody. You can go down."

Meanwhile, tributes been paid to Mr Sampson who died in the early hours of Friday morning.

The 63-year-old was found on Crookbarrow Road, Norton, Worcester. Flowers have been left near the scene.

Colleagues paid tribute to Mr Sampson and expressed their condolences on the Worcester News Facebook page.

Emmy Lou said: “Such sad news. [He] was a lovely next door neighbour.”

Hayley McDonald added: “I am so shocked to see that it’s you Bob, I had the short pleasure of working with you for a few days. May you RIP.”

Emma Andrews said: “What very sad news to hear, such a lovely man to work with. RIP Bob, thinking of your family.”

Viola Wolinska said: “I can’t believe it! Rob was such a lovely person. I used to chat to him in the gym. My thoughts are with his family."
