A-55-year-old man was disqualified from driving for 12 months after he admitted drink driving after a family barbecue.

Colin Smith, of High Ridge, Boltons Farm, Station Road, Offenham, near Evesham, pleaded guilty to the offence before Worcester Magistrates Court.

Colette Orton, prosecuting, said that witnesses saw a vehicle appearing to be speeding in High Street and police stopped the car.

Officers smelt alcohol on his breath and he was asked to provide a roadside breath test before being taken to Worcester Police Station.

He was found to have 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

Colin Phillips, defending, said: "He regrets the inconvenience he has caused to the court.

"It was a family barbecue - he thought he was clear at the time."

The court heard Smith has no previous convictions.

Magistrates fined Smith £400 and order him to pay £135 prosecution cost and a £40 victim surcharge.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

He was offered a Drink Drive Rehabilitation Course, which if completed to a satisfactory standard, will reduce his overall ban by up to a quarter.
