COMMUNITY-spirited members of the public are being invited to volunteer at a St Richard's Hospice's new shop in Kidderminster.

The shop, which spans two floors in High Street, is due to open its doors to residents during the second week of October.

Volunteers are needed to staff the new store - which will soon be filled with an assortment of second-hand goods.

Kirstie Smith, St Richard's staff and volunteer recruitment co-ordinator, said: "Volunteering in our shops can be an extremely varied and rewarding experience as there is a whole range of areas to work in - from manning the till to creating eye-catching window displays and sorting and pricing the many donations.

"For many volunteers, the experience they gain working in the hospice's shops benefits them in the long-term - with previous volunteers going on to secure permanent work in the retail sector with skills learned as a volunteer.

"Volunteering in our new Kidderminster shop is also a great chance to be part of something new from its beginnings."

Along with clothing, varied bric-a-brac, CDs, DVDs and more - the shop will boast a collection of around 12,000 books for literature-lovers to browse.

The new Kidderminster store will help raise awareness of the charity - which supports patients from the area at its in-patient unit in Worcester.

A volunteer recruitment event is being held at the shop today (Tuesday, September 19) between 1pm and 4pm, for those who would like to find out more.
