COUNCIL bosses are urging people to stay away from buildings at the former Burlish Park Golf Club amid growing fears for public safety.

Wyre Forest District Council leaders are asking people to stay away from the former golf course in Zortech Avenue, in Kidderminster.

They also warned that trespassers ignoring their advice do so at their own risk.

The plea follows numerous reports of break-ins, criminal damage and arson attempts, to West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service over the last few days.

Firefighters from Stourport, Bewdley and Kidderminster stations were all called to the site at 6.30pm on September 19, to reports of a building fire.

The council is urging residents who see any suspicious behaviour to report it to West Mercia Police officers immediately.

Councillor Nathan Desmond, cabinet member for resources, said: "I urge everyone to stay away from the buildings at the Burlish Park Golf Club site.

"It is regrettable that irresponsible people are trespassing and damaging the buildings."

Cllr Desmond added: "Apart from the risk of injury to themselves, their acts could constitute criminal behaviour and result in arrest and prosecution.

"If anyone has any information on who is responsible, they should contact the police without delay."

Burlish Park Golf Club ceased operating earlier this year.

Anyone who sees suspicious behaviour on the site can call West Mercia Police on 101.
