A CARE home in Kidderminster will open its doors to the public and put on a host of activities this weekend.

Shrubbery, in Birmingham Road, wants to dispel the myth that care homes are sad places and encourage people to see they can be loving and happy for residents.

The event – linked to the national open day for care homes - will take place from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday (April 21).

Prior to this kitchen staff – the ‘Hairy Chefs’ – having their legs waxed by home manager Helen Ayres at noon to raise money to fund special dementia plates.

The open day will feature animal therapy sessions at 2pm, which will see lambs being bottle fed as well as appearances by bunnies, chicks, hedgehogs, a bearded lizard and dogs.

A sing along will take place at 2pm while the event will finish with the chef’s barbecue at 5pm.

A spokesman for the home said: “This is an opportunity to go beyond a ‘dry’ online CQC report or glossy brochure, and experience a home directly and authentically.

“The Shrubbery is a loving and happy care home, and we encourage people to see this for themselves.”
