TOKENS of love appeared outside the post office in Abbey Road on Valentine's Day, thanks to Yarnbomb Great Malvern.
Sue Spencer and Christine Toothill created the display to promote the Work of Heart garden which will be unveiled at the RHS Malvern Spring Garden Festival later this year.
The garden is the creation of designer Clare Young, from Gloucester, who is dedicating it to the memory of her husband, Ken.
Sue Spencer said: "We felt that we could link our display with Clare’s garden by creating a garden-like feel, by adding stems to our hearts, and creating a few heart-shaped creatures."
Mrs Young is asking supporters to sponsor knitted or crocheted hearts, in the hope of raising £50,000 for the Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.
"As we put the yarnbomb up on Monday, we were explaining the Work of Heart Garden to any interested passers-by," said Mrs Spencer.
"Some wanted to make hearts, some were going to the spring show and said that they would now look out for the garden, and one lady wanted to make a donation there and then. I am sure that many local people would want to be involved, as the issues raised affect us all.
"We first made contact with Clare last year, when she sent us a picture of the yarnbomb in the grounds of the hospice.
"Clare contacted us recently to see if we were interested in being involved in her exciting new project and we met her and her friends a few weeks ago. We were touched by Clare’s story and impressed by her drive to achieve her goal.
"Our main goal in yarnbombing is to make people smile, and this garden will definitely do that."
Yarnbomb Great Malvern produces regular yarnbombs for events such as Christmas, Easter, Remembrance Day and also one-off events.
