PEOPLE in Redditch are being told that if they reduce their waste they can win prizes and money.

A campaign, run by Greenredeem on behalf of Worcestershire County Council and Redditch Borough Council, is encouraging residents to do things to cut back on their rubbish.

Activities range from buying a compost bin through to repairing and reusing items.

In return residents are rewarded with points which can be redeemed for vouchers, money off at local businesses or donated to a local charity.

People can even earn points for telling their neighbours about the scheme.

Councillor Debbie Chance, portfolio holder for Environmental Services at Redditch Borough Council, said: "I can't wait to sign up and start earning my rewards and I hope as many residents in the borough will do the same.

"Reducing waste is easier than a lot of people realise and these activities will show residents how to effectively cut the contents of their bin. With local businesses and charities benefitting from the scheme as well it's a win-win for everyone."

Although the scheme goes officially live on October 1, residents can register and start earning points immediately.

Any resident who registers before October 1 will be entered into a draw to win a £20 Love to Shop voucher.

The activities and the points they earn will be go live on the website from October 1.
