HUNDREDS of visitors and 80 classic cars were at Burford House Garden near Tenbury.

It was the second classic motor show at Burford House that also has one of the finest collections of clematis in the country.

Visitors were treated to a wide range of different cars including a rare 1934 Austin Seven Special, a Lagonda, a Rolls Royce Ghost Tourer and a Sunbeam Rapier.

A number of Jaguars, TVRs, and a whole host of classic MGs all made their home for one day only with the backdrop of the Georgian stately home, while the gardens were also open for free tours, making the event even more spectacular.

The cars, all lovingly restored and maintained, provided the perfect accompaniment for Burford’s renowned collection of clematis.

Visitors were treated to free tours by the Burford House Garden Angels; a group of volunteers who lovingly tend to the gardens and grounds in their spare time.

They learned that a National Clematis Collection was once displayed within the four-acre gardens, and that more recently the gardens have been revived to their former glory by the Angels themselves, who planted more than 300 clematis plants chosen from over 100 different varieties.

“The motor show was once again a big hit, the weather was kind and we had plenty of people not only looking at the impressive selection of classic cars - but also venturing through the house and into the gardens, spending time enjoying the clematis,” said Paul Benson, manager of Burford House Garden Store.

“So many have expressed interest in growing their own varieties – particularly clematis Mikelite and clematis Blue Sensation – within their own gardens, so we’ve decided to go back to our roots and grow clematis on site for customers to pick up from the store.”

Clematis Mikelite and Blue Sensation are both available from Burford House Garden Store in four-litre pots.

Plans for next year’s motor show on Sunday, August 5, 2018 are already underway.
