STAFF working in the urology department at a Worcestershire hospital have been recognised for their hard work following a flood of positive feedback from patients.

The team at ward 10 at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch were presented with a cake and certificate as part of the Big Thank You scheme run by Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the Alex as well as Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Kidderminster Hospital.

More than 32 members of staff including doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants work on the ward and every year across Worcestershire about 8,000 urological procedures are performed.

The trust’s chief executive Penny Venables applauded the team for their work.

“After reading several letters of praise from patients and relatives, it was clear that this team’s dedication needed recognition,” she said.

“The care and compassion they show to their patients makes so much difference to their hospital stay.”

Consultant urologist Adel Makar said: “Staff in the urology ward don’t realise how good they really are.

“It is great that Penny took the time to come and personally thank them for the excellent care they all provide to our patients."

Urology is a surgical speciality, covering the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, prostate and male reproductive organs.
