THEY say change is as good as a rest, but the new colour scheme of a Worcester pub has sparked outrage, with some labelling it "Cadbury's Dairy Milk Bar".

The Blackpole Inn re-opened on Friday following a ten-day make-over, sporting a new purple and grey colour-scheme- it has not gone down well with everybody.

On the Facebook page Worcester Pubs Then and Now, people let their opinions be known on the pub's bright new look.

Julie Hodgetts said: "I do not like it one little bit. They're cold colours, which are not inviting and completely off in a part residential area.

"Loved the old red brick, why do they paint pubs brickwork when it means chipping and peeling? Keep to the red brick for god's sake."

Geoff Hope said: "Which wonderful designer thought of this?Mind you, I would not have the nerve to own up."

John Webb posted: "I may have to pop in just to have a laugh. You would not want to be seen there with your mates though would you?"

Lesley Milton said: Yuck. What's happening? First the Glovers now the Blackpole. More like Blackpool without the tower, but there's time."

Bob Blandford, owner of the Facebook page, is some what of an authority on pubs in the city, after writing a book of the same title as the Facebook page, and his own on-line blog.

He said: "They’re already calling it Blackpole Illuminations, Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Bar, pur-pole, the Bishop’s Palace and the inevitable tart’s boudoir, this colour-scheme has not gone down well one bit.

"I visited when it opened and found the whole thing ill considered."

When contacted by the Worcester News, the manager of the pub declined to comment at this time.

The Marston's brewery, which owns the pub, were unavailable for comment too when the story went to press.
