CHANGES that will shape the future of Droitwich Spa’s town centre will be discussed at a public meeting next week.

Mayor of Droitwich Spa Councillor Bob Brookes, is inviting people to express their views on plans to improve roads and services at an event on Tuesday, October 7 at 6.15pm in the council chamber, St Richard’s House.

Worcestershire County Council has proposed a number of possible upgrades to the town such as re-surfacing High Street, introducing two-way traffic in St Andrew’s Road and improving connectivity between the railway station and centre.

Cllr Brookes said: “Parts of Droitwich Spa have deteriorated over the last few years and are badly in need of a face-lift.

“Residents and businesses alike are keen to see the High Street, town centre streets, pathways and open spaces improved in order to make the town centre more welcoming to visitors and shoppers, and to boost the local economy and community life.”

The mayor added the changes will affect the “centre of our town for many years to come” and urged people and businesses to attend the public meeting and voice their opinions.

He said; “It will be a long time before we have an opportunity like this again, so I want it to be right for Droitwich. “The county council carried out similar schemes in Bewdley, Lowesmoor and Upton-upon-Severn which were very successful.

“However there is limited funding available so areas for improvement will need to be prioritised with a realistically phased programme of work. “It is vital that the county council knows what needs to be done as a priority.”

The public meeting has been timetabled to enable Droitwich Spa Town Council to understand the public’s stance before it makes planning recommendations.

People who cannot attend the event can complete the online survey at worcestershire.gov.uk by Thursday, October 30 at 5pm.
