THE historic Cardinal's hat pub in Worcester will be joining in the fun of the fayre this weekend and getting involved in the Victorian celebrations.

The Friar Street pub, which is thought to be the oldest in the city, will be putting a festive twist on its hospitality during the fayre, which gets underway later today (Thursday, Nov 27).

The much loved pub will be taking its atmosphere and a warm welcome to the heart of the Victorian Fayre, with a live music stage and outdoor refreshments for happy shoppers as they enjoy the four day event.

The music will celebrate today’s traditional Christmas carols, the origins of which can mostly be traced back to the mid 19th century, with an eclectic mix of musicians.

Nigel Smith, landlord of the Cardinal's Hat, said there was a wide range of musicians performing on their stage.

"Vicki Swan and Jonny Dyer are like a good cup of mulled wine, full of warm cozy moments as they bring Music Hall to the stage," he said.

"Worcester acoustic singer and guitarist Jennifer Ludlow performs covers and her own original material, and listen out for Worcester Ukulele Club who will be bringing the fun on Sunday. We’ve got loads of other musicians performing pop and folk throughout the weekend."

Cardinal's Hat manager, Sadie Hughes, added: "Come and see us at the Hat for some festive cheer. We have poser tables and will be offering our popular homemade pies and peas for folk to munch on, as well as a range of locally produced Christmas ales.

"The Cardinal’s Hat is well known for its range of real ale, and the festive ones we will be serving during the Victorian Fayre are being brewed exclusively for us by Pope’s Brewery and are guaranteed to warm the cockles."
