HUNDREDS of people remembered their loved ones at a St Richard’s Hospice Lights of Love service in Droitwich.

The event on Tuesday (November 25) at The Sacred Heart Church featured time for quiet reflection, as well as music from the Dodderhill choir and St Richard’s Singers.

Lights of Love allows those who have lost a friend or relative to dedicate a light on the hospice’s Christmas tree in St Andrew’s Spire, Deansway, Worcester, in exchange for a donation of their choice.

The campaign has raised £44,000 for the care charity so far, with services having being held across Worcestershire.

Alison Parkes, senior community fundraiser at St Richard’s Hospice, said: “The services were very moving and appreciated by so many people.

“We are very grateful to all those who all those who have made such generous donations and dedicated a light in memory.

“The money raised through these dedications will help St Richard’s continue to offer compassionate care to patients at the end of their lives and support their loved ones through their bereavement.”

Names of loved ones will be displayed on boards in Droitwich Library, surrounding the tree in St Andrew's Spire, Worcester, and in a book of thanksgiving placed in Worcester Cathedral and The Priory in Malvern throughout December.

More than 2,500 names have now been dedicated in memory of loved ones and residents still have until Monday, December 15, to take part in the scheme.
