CHILDREN aged four to seven can now learn about health, reading, writing and arithmetic with a new Apple iPad app developed by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The free Junior Paramedic app brings key stage one learning into a health context.

It features 10 interactive activities in which children play or answer questions relating to anatomy and physiology, staying safe when on holiday and identifying whether an accident is ‘big’ or ‘little’.

Julian Rhodes, head of education and training at West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “This has been peer reviewed by teachers. I’ve even tested it on my nieces and nephews. They love it and I love it.

“By designing the key stage one learning in a health context we are educating tomorrow’s adults who will treat the NHS with respect.”

The Junior Paramedic app is available for iPad only and can be downloaded from the App Store for free until the end of February, after which it will cost 69 pence.
