A COUNCIL u-turn has resulted in the rejection of a small housing development in a Worcestershire village.

The planned six-property build on land off Church Road, Crowle, was approved by Wychavon District Council in January, subject to a Section 106 agreement - the funding of additional assets by a planning applicant - being signed.

But the application came before the local authority again on Thursday (May 28), after a government ruling exempted sites of fewer than 11 properties from section 106 agreements.

The planning committee, which included a number of new members following the recent election, did not stay true to the original decision.

Councillors narrowly rejected the application by seven votes to six, with two abstentions.

Councillor Margaret Rowley said: "This housing is not needed in the area.

"There is no contribution towards local infrastructure to make this development acceptable."
