SIR – I rarely vote at the local elections nowadays as unfortunately many politicians have become mere puppets of Westminster.

If proof be needed, the current drive with regard to house building is a case in point. Why are many cities, towns and villages taking this burden when they have insufficient infrastructure.

Suitable employment for the potential new dwellers is very often many miles away, necessitating a commute. This is only one of many problems due to a lack of thoughtful planning and consideration for the locality.

This current obsession is no doubt keeping the construction industry buoyant. However, we may well have a future legacy of empty houses and a depleted green-belt.
