VANDALS have struck at a charity shop.

The main front window of the Headway Worcestershire charity shop on St Swithun’s Street in Worcester was smashed.

It is believed to have happened in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Kathryn Davis, CEO of Headway Worcestershire said that the vandalism has caused the charity “great sadness.”

She said: “It’s a real shame for people with acquired head injuries, and it’s a wonder why anyone would do that to a charity shop.”

The window has been boarded up and the charity shared pictures of the damage to its Facebook page.

The post said the damage has meant the charity would lose money as the shop could not open and it faced a huge bill to replace the glass, which was not insured under its building insurance.

Staff hope people will help to raise money to replace the window.

Ms Davies said police had told her that a resident from nearby flats had seen two young women walking away from the direction of the shop laughing, at around the time it's believed the vandalism happened.

Although the window remains boarded up, the shop is open for business.

Ms Davis added: “We will have to fund raise to replace it, which unfortunately means taking away from funds for support and for activities and trips.

“The charity shop is a key part of what we do. It helps with funding what we do to help people with acquired brain injuries.”

The charity has also apologised to any customers it had to turn away on Tuesday while it was cleaning up the mess.

Headway supports people with brain injuries through challenges they face day-to-day.
