POLICE are warning home-owners to lock up securely after burglars raided three Worcester homes in one night.

The break-ins all happened in the St John’s area in the early hours of yesterday and the thieves entered each of the homes through open or unlocked doors and windows.

Now West Mercia Police is urging people to step up their home security.

All the break-ins happened between 12.30am and 2.45am.

The first was at a house in Claverham Close. A burgundy handbag, a black purse, cash and man’s wallet were stolen together with two black Samsung phones valued at £400 each and a £250 silver and gold Tissot man’s watch.

Police later recovered some of the items nearby.

The second burglary took place at 2.35am in Margaret Road where a briefcase, a handbag, a purse and a wallet were stolen Police discovered the third incident while responding to the second. It also took place at a house in Margaret Road and a Samsung touch screen phone was taken.

Two males on bikes were seen in the area at the times of the incidents.

Police are now urging people to ensure their windows and doors are left secure.

Inspector Janet Heritage said: “A lot of burglaries are opportunist, where offenders have gained entry through a window left ajar or a door left unlocked.

“Several premises in one area can be targeted on the same evening or early hours of the morning.

"It is a good idea to have a regular night time routine which includes closing ground floor windows and ensuring all doors are locked and secure before going to bed.

“The local policing team will be upping patrols in the area and offering security advice. I would urge anyone who witnesses any suspicious activity in their area to contact police immediately.”
