A “COWARDLY” attack left a much-loved pet cat fatally injured – sparking a probe for the culprits.

The family pet, named Mommy Cat, collapsed and died last Wednesday.

Vets X-rayed the cat and discovered a single air pellet lodged in her stomach.

It is believed she was shot the previous day after coming home to Upper Hall in Hampton Lovett, near Droitwich, in a poorly state.

RSPCA inspector Mark Lewis said: “It is a cowardly act of callous cruelty to point an air gun at any animal causing immense pain and suffering to all involved.

“The cat’s owners are extremely upset as Mommy Cat and her son were owned by their grandmother, who passed away last year.

“They promised to look after the cats for her.

“I want to remind the public that shooting an animal is a serious offence and could result in a prison sentence of up to six months and/or a fine of up to £20,000.”

Anyone with information about the attack can call the RSPCA national cruelty and advice line on 0300 1234999.
