A 17-year-old youth has been arrested and released on bail after a man was attacked and robbed in Evesham.

The robbery took place in Bridge Street at about 3.30am on Saturday.

The victim, who is in his 20s, was sat down when he was surrounded by a group of youths.

One of them punched him in the head, took £80 cash from his wallet and punched him again before the group moved on.

PC Paul Blundell of Evesham Police Station, who is investigating the incident, said: "The robbery was unprovoked and the person who attacked the victim and took his money was cowardly, only doing so with a large group behind him.”

Anyone who saw the robbery or the group of youths making their way along Bridge Street and onto Port Street between 3.30am and 4am is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
