VANDALS who struck at Worcester Racecourse are being told enough is enough after causing damage three times in the past week.

In the latest incident overnight between Thursday and Friday the plastic running rail at the viaduct bend were pulled down and the metal supports bent and broken.

It comes just two days before the first scheduled race day of the new season tomorrow.

Groundstaff have been working day and night to get the course ready, with races providing a boost for the local economy.

The course commercial manager Jenny Cheshire said the vandalism puts unwanted extra burdens on groundstaff, who have worked round the clock to pump standing water from off Pitchcroft after days of heavy rain.

The risk of flooding meant course management had put off race preparations until they received the all-clear for racing earlier this week.

Mrs Cheshire said the course would be ready, but warned any would-be vandals that security measures were being stepped up in order to prevent any repeat attacks this weekend.

She said: “Enough is enough.

“It is larking around, obviously, and it has happened late at night, after 11pm when we left the course on Thursday.”
