On Monday 17th March as part of our Gifted & Talented programme, selected students from Years 8 and 9 took part in the Olympic Sport of Judo. The sessions were led by professional coach Keith Jones of the Ni-CO Coaching Partnership who coaches the Olympic Sport of Judo in schools, under the County Sports Partnership based at Droitwich Spa. The coaching sessions introduced the students to the sport and opened their eyes to the opportunities offered in this sport.

On Saturday March 8th students from Elgar Technology College went to Worcester Magistrates' Court to compete against schools from all over the county in the Mock Trial Competition. Athough we didnt win anything it was a terrific team building experience and an excellent insight into law based careers. The students thoroughly enjoyed the day and were excellent ambassadors for the school.

To celebrate World Book Day and National Year of Reading, Elgar Technology College invited local sportsmen, businessmen and representatives from the Police and Fire Brigade to come to the Library and chat to students about their experiences of reading both now and in the past. The Worcester News came in and made a video of the event which can be seen on their website.

Wednesday 5th March was World Maths Day, and students at Elgar Technology College did their best to get involved. This was the second annual World Maths Day, and the intention was to get students around the world competing against each other online to answer mental arithmetic questions.

On Tuesday 4th March, 52 students from Elgar Technology College swapped their day as a student for a day as a Medieval Monk. Students were kept busy all day with a variety of activities run by volunteers and friends of the Cathedral.

Elgar Technology College were approached by Anna Windsor from Warwick University to take part in a scheme which collects old text books that are shipped out to be used in Tanzanian Secondary Schools. The charity is called Read Book Project and information can be found on their website http://www.readinternational.org.uk/ We have managed to collect over 1000 books from various Faculties, including English, Science and Design Technology, and also from the Library. This has been a good way for us to recycle old books usefully rather than them just going to be pulped or to landfill.

A group of year 10 students from Elgar Technology College recently enjoyed an inspiring and challenging day out at Oxford University. The students were part of a visit to the University arranged for Gifted and Talented students from Worcester Secondary schools under the Aim High initiative.

On Wednesday 6th February, year 8 students from Elgar Technology College were given the challenge to put on a Catwalk fashion show as part of their Enterprise Day. The students were given the duration of the school day to design and make outfits and present them as a Catwalk fashion show in front of their year group and staff. Students utilised skills learnt through a variety of subjects to produce creative, innovative designs portrayed through many mediums including a Wedding Scene, Recycling, Rich and Poor and the Best of British. Music, ICT and stage lighting were used to create a high definition and energy filled presentation.

On 10th January 2008, year 2 & 3 pupils from Warndon, Cranham Drive, Gorse Hill, Perdiswell, Lyppard Grange and Fairfield Primary Schools came together at Elgar Technology College as part of the PESSCL Strategy to celebrate and perform the work they had done with DanceFest in their own schools before Christmas. Mrs Foulds (Head of Physical Education & Sport Faculty) at Elgar Technology College said "This was a wonderful display of the childrens' hard work. It was a delight to see so many parents supporting the event. The pupils were a credit to their schools and we eagerly await next year's performance."

Elgar Technology College ended the term with school pantomime Beauty & the Beast. We were delighted with the success of the show, held over 3 fun packed sell-out evening performances and a matinee performance for local primary school children. Over 60 students from years 7-11 took part in the production, directed by Sam Roach (Head of Performing Arts) and a great time was had by all.

'Dress in Red Day''Dress in Red Day'

On Friday 7th December, staff and students at Elgar Technology College held a dress in red day' to coincide with World Aids Day. Students and staff each paid a pound to wear red and all money raised - in excess of £500.00 - was donated to the Red Cross who work very hard to support individuals and families who are affected by this terrible illness. In the library there was a tuck shop and red ribbons were sold to raise money for the National Aids Trust
