Elgar's Star Fund Raisers
Elgar Technology College is delighted to announce that 5 of our students have been chosen to receive the Diana Award for their outstanding contribution to the school and community.
Year 11 students, Gemma Lewis, Catherine Fewtrell, Katharine Jones, Jamie Phelps and James Gunter have been chosen for the award because of their inspirational qualities that are demonstrated through their commitment and work in the field of charity fund raising.
During the past two years the group have organized various tuck shops, quizzes and sponsored activities raising almost £2,500 for charities including Cancer Research UK, The British Heart Foundation, Children in Need, Comic Relief, Childline and the Fair Play Project.
The Diana Award is a living legacy to the late Princess which recognises and celebrates the outstanding qualities and contributions made by many young people to their schools and communities.
Headteacher Mr Grace said that in his experience it is unprecedented for a school to have so many students recognised in this way at one time. He said that the whole school are thrilled with these awards and that the students can be justifiably proud of their achievements.
School librarian Mrs Phelps said "It has been a pleasure to support and work with this group of dedicated young people who have inspired younger students to follow in their footsteps."
Last summer the students were awarded the school's Michael Foster Award for Citizenship.
