Students Step Back In Time

On Tuesday 4th March, 52 students from Elgar Technology College swapped their day as a student for a day as a Medieval Monk. Students were kept busy all day with a variety of activities run by volunteers and friends of the Cathedral.

Students had the opportunity to take a guided tour of the Cathedral, learn Latin, participate in a Chapter House meeting, role play being in the refectory - where they learnt how Monks ate & communicated in silence through meal times. They were introduced to the principles and beliefs of Medieval Medicine and even had the opportunity to Interview a real monk about how much life had changed or stayed the same for Benedictine monks.

The day ended with a short service, Saint Wulstan's prayer was said at the end in honour of his 1000th anniversary.

History teacher, Ms Di-Vito said Our students really enjoyed the day at the Cathedral, they learnt a lot about the importance of the churches and monasteries in the Middle Ages, and know exactly how to spot a Norman arch from a later one! Hopefully, some of the students will be taking parents and friends around the Cathedral to point out some of the interesting features that we were made aware of. We had a lot of fun within the different workshops and are grateful to the staff and volunteers at Worcester Cathedral for teaching us so much about the building that dominates Worcester's skyline.'
