A WORCESTER store is holding a series of events and competitions to address the myths surrounding real nappies as part of Real Nappy Week.

Honeybees Natural Nursery in Sidbury, Worcester, is running a spot-the-bot competition, a nappy change olympics and a save pennies when spending pennies competition. The events have been designed around myths raised in an article in your Worcester News which add-ressed the cloth versus disposable nappy debate.

"I want to show people it is not hard work and cloth nappies are fun to do," said store owner Mandie Wright. She said it cut back on what went in the waste bin and also saved money.

By the time a baby is potty-trained, he or she will have got through 4,000 to 6,000 disposable nappies, at a cost of £900 to the parent. Ninety per cent of these nappies will end up in landfill, where they will take 500 years to decompose.

Statistics, fortnightly bin collections and the range of cloth nappies now available, are creating a growing trend of Worcester parents ditching disposables.

Parents who want to find out more are being invited to Honeybees tomorrow bet-ween 10am and 2pm, for a Nappy Change Olympics. The fastest nappy changing parent will win a £20 gift voucher for the store. For parents thinking about using cloth nappies, Mrs Wright's advice is to go to the store for a chat. "We have loads of mums who would be happy to talk about their experiences.

Any family from whatever lifestyle can be environmentally aware and we will offer support for as long as people need it."

Sarah Whitehouse, of Burgess Close, Warndon Villages, has been using real nappies since her son Ashley was four months old. "They do not smell as bad as disposables and Ashley has never had nappy rash," she said.

"They have saved us loads of money and I have never had a leak." Spot-the-bot and save pennies when spending pennies competitions can be entered in the store or online, visit www.honeybees-store. co.uk. For more information call Honeybees on 01905 358422.
