NORTHWICK EVENING TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

AT our April meeting the speaker was Ray Sturdy. The title of his talk and slide show was A Drop of the Hard Stuff.

This involved a bicycle ride around the Ring of Kerry in Ireland.

Mr Sturdy is a dedicated supporter of the charity Mencap, having done several sponsored events and has kept records of the various occasions.

Before visiting Ireland, bicycle training on the Malvern Hills took place.

Another very important activity took place, that was to learn how to drink the hard stuff' namely Irish Guinness!

A total of 28 people set out from Swansea, including a young handicapped girl called Louise.

A doctor was part of the party, which is necessary for insurance purposes.

Everyone enjoyed the cycle ride and admired the wonderful scenery, also the Irish people's unique sense of humour.

There were a few punctures along the way, fortunately no major mishaps.

Louise completed the journey with a few bruises and scratches.

It was a wonderful achievement for a handicapped young person.

All visitors will be very welcome at our next meeting, which takes place at the Young People's Leisure Club, Droitwich Road, on Thursday, May 22, at 7.45pm.

Phil Weston will be the speaker.
