Our meeting, on Thursday, April 17, in the village hall, began with Jerusalem helped by our pianist Liz Chestney. A posy of flowers was presented to Mrs Chestney for her birthday.
President, Helena Downham introduced our speaker, Dr David Tibbutt, who told us about his visit to Rwanda. After a brief history of the country and the horrifying genocide of 1994 Dr Tibbutt showed us slides of the landscape, treacherous roads and log bridges, examples of rural village life and extreme poverty and of Kirambi Health Centre. No doctor had ever worked there and over two weeks he and another doctor saw about 500 outpatients, many of whom had walked for hours.
The vote of thanks was given by Janine Wheatley.

After tea we had our business meeting where we heard of several events from our federation to mark its 90th birthday this year. There is a competition to enter as well as the Carbon Challenge.
The competition of a holiday photograph was won by Mrs Maureen Butcher.
Our next meeting is on Thursday, May 15, when we will be considering resolutions. Visitors are always very welcome.
