Tony Baker presented a programme of recorded music entitled Out and About.
He began with 18th-century composers Michael Haydn and Johann Christian Bach, featuring the latter's sextet for oboe, violin, cello, two horns and forte piano.
An unusual recording of Elgar's Sea Pictures was heard - sung in Russian in a 1977 recording, conducted by Svetlanov. Tony recalled a concert in October 1983 at Birmingham town hall when he heard the USSR State Symphony Orchestra with soloist Valery Klimov performing Khachaturian's violin concerto, and members heard a recording of this work played by Klimov.
The programme ended with the work of a composer who is still alive, John Metcalf.
The annual meeting will be held at Holy Innocents community centre, Kidderminster, on May 23, starting at 7.30pm and members are reminded to contribute to the buffet on that evening. Subscriptions are now due.
