Farmers Market

9:20am Tuesday 25th March 2008

Easter is the time of year when we celebrate new life and the coming of spring. And it's also a great time to have some fun with your family and enjoy all the goodies that the season brings.

Worcestershire Farmers' Markets and St Peter's Garden Centre are putting on a special Easter event with something for everyone. There's a bumper crop of stalls with 25 different producers bringing along their local produce for you to try - and buy.

Henry Wormington, chairman of the Worcestershire Farmers' Market Group, said: "We've a good variety of stalls with all of the usual favourite producers, with traditionally-reared meats, vegetables, eggs, cheese, wines and juices and baked goods. There will also be a selection of craft stalls from local craftspeople."

New season goodies on offer include a range of early alpines ready to plant in your garden.

Akiki's Organics will have the first of the year's fresh salad leaves, which will brighten up your special Easter meals.

"We'll have fresh organic mezuna, red mustard, cress, pak choi and tsai tai," said owner Charbel Akiki.

Country Markets and Churches Bakery will have some delicious Easter cakes too.

Alongside the extra large farmers' market, St Peter's Garden Centre is Children can hunt around the garden centre to find eight hidden bunnies leaping into Easter with some great family entertainment.

There's a chocolate Easter bunny hunt - children can hunt around the garden centre to find eight hidden bunnies, with everyone who finds all eight getting a free chocolate rabbit.

Children can get creative by painting their Easter design on to a ceramic egg cup with Malvern's Green Frog Pottery between 11am and 2pm.

And, of course, you can be painted as an Easter bunny (or anything else) with Funky Faces face painting from 10am-2.30pm.

Finally, there'll be plenty of fun with the Solo Circus comedy juggling show, starring clown and juggler Steve Kaos. He'll be performing shows at 11am and 2.30pm and clowning around throughout the day.

More information about farmers' markets, along with dates and producers, can be found at www.wfmg.co.uk.

Today's market runs from 9.30am to 2pm at St Peter's Garden Centre, Norton, Worcester.

Your next markets include a combined farmers' and craft market on Bank Holiday Monday in Evesham and on Saturday, March 29, you can enjoy the Tastes of Tenbury food festival and craft market.
