EROTIC pictures displayed in a Worcestershire restaurant have been taken down after complaints from prudish customers.

The Kama Sutra dining room at the Gurkha Knight restaurant, bar and lounge in Kempsey has now been transformed into a function room for club meetings and private parties.

The move followed complaints about explicit paintings and wood carvings taken from the Hindu text the Kama Sutra which were placed on the walls to create an intimate couples only dining room.

The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian book on the art of love and sexual technique.

The over-18s only room was one of six restaurant and bars created by the owner of the Gurkha Knight Gopal Paudyal in February.

He said since the room opened to diners it had received a very mixed reception.

He estimated around 75 per cent of customers had liked the idea with the remaining 25 per cent disapproving of the explicit pictures.

Mr Paudyal said: "Some of our customers were complaining so we thought it best to take the pictures out.

"Some people like it and some people don't."

Mr Paudyal said the room at the pub, in Bestman's Lane, Kempsey was transformed into a conference and function room about a month ago and staff had already catered for a Rotary club meeting and birthday parties.

Mr Paudyal said: "About 75 per cent of customers still like the idea but, you know, we feel why should we let people talk about the restaurant - so we took it out."

No decision has yet been made about whether to change the room's name.

The restaurant offers Nepalese, Indian, Chinese, Malaysian, Singaporean and Thai cuisine.
