A KIND-HEARTED Worcester youngster has cut off her long hair and donated it to a charity that makes hairpieces for children with alopecia or cancer.

Rosie Ash, 11, had 15 inches (38cm) of hair chopped off at Bishops hairdressers near The Cross in Worcester.

Her hair will now go to Locks of Love, a not-for-profit organisation in America which helps disadvantaged children suffering from medical hair loss.

The Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College pupil agreed to make the generous donation after visiting her cousins, who have both previously donated hair.

Rosie said: "It's all cut off and put in a plastic bag and sent to children who have cancer. "They have a treatment which makes all their body hair fall out so I donated all my hair to give to them to have hair as well."

Mum Ann, of Queenswood Drive, St Peter's, said: "I think it encouraged her to do it more because she was doing it for a reason, to help someone else.

"That's how she is, she's quite caring."

"We are so proud of her, the way she does things and thinks about other people."

She also praised the way hairdresser Bryan Bishop and staff, who were celebrating 20 years of the salon being in The Avenue, The Cross, on the same day, made Rosie feel special.

Rosie was also in your Worcester News in June when she received a good citizen award from West Mercia Constabulary after raising money for the NSPCC.
