We will have review on the wheelie-bins
SIR - I respect your right to report the wheelie-bin debate held in the Guildhall. However, I am very disappointed that in a period you decided should be political letter-free you should have used your editorial to take a swipe at city councillors in general over the matter. Far from being afraid to put our political futures on the line we are fulfilling a cross-party promise made in 2004/05.
However, in those days, no one knew what all the challenges might be, or particularly how severe some might be. The council therefore promised the community that once wheelie-bins had been rolled out across the whole city there would be a review of how the scheme was working.
Of course some things have changed since then. For example our MP has turned the debate from an environmental issue into a political one.
The reality is that the Conservative administration has made the political decision that it will fulfil its original promise and have the review, now with a Lib-Dem as madam chairman. We have also advised the new chairman that we want nothing ruled in and nothing ruled out of the review. Once the review is complete we will debate its outcome in public and in conjunction with any government guidance that is current.
BARRY MACKENZIE-WILLIAMS,
Councillor, Bedwardine Ward.

Let's hope that Councillor Denham will have nothing whatsoever to do with this review. He is the one who recommended the fortnighly collections to the Council and who, after they implemented his recommendations, used this as a political ploy at the elections to promise weekly collections if Labour got elected. Downright treachery and the Consetvative Councillors were well and truly "set up" by New Labour.
We want to see no more Labour Councillors on any forum that they can ever do anything like this again. They must not be trusted.
