Cutting service could lead to rise in crime
Sir - Malvern Hills electors remember that local Tories pledged in their 2007 election manifesto that: Improving community safety is and will remain one of our highest priorities'.
David Cameron said on April 17 that community safety is one of the main planks of the Conservative platform for the 2008 local government elections.
There are no local elections this year in the Malvern Hills area and the Tory administration at Malvern Hills District Council is not keeping their 2007 manifesto pledge. Tories are slashing the district community safety service, saying this is a low-crime area' and that the service is not a priority', all in the name of efficiency' and cost-cutting'.
The success of Malvern Hills District being a low crime area is the outcome of years of effort by dedicated specialist council officers working in the community and partnering the police service and others.
How soon will it be before crime figures start to rise locally? Can electors trust Tories to keep essential promises?
Graham Myatt,
Malvern.
