Gordon Brown go now before it is too late
SIR - Families having to cope with yet more rising fuel and food bills are
now faced with another stealth tax to add to their list of problems.
The Government has announced that hundreds of thousands of British families will have to pay up to £245 extra on their vehicle excise duty now that Labour has included cars up to seven years old. At the time of the Budget the Government failed to mention their intentions.
This will effect many families who buy second hand cars with many miles on the clock. It is bad enough having to pay for insurance and petrol.
So, did Mr Darling lie when he said a typical family with two children earning £28,000 would be £130 better off? So how many of those will now have to pay another £200 odd in extra vehicle excise duty and become losers as well?
If this was a business we would have fired the bosses a long time ago and be hoping we can save the company before it is too late. Mr Brown, go now and let the country decide on who should runs
things, and while you are at it, let the country decide on Europe as well.
Peter Jewell,
Droitwich.

We oldies have had the best of Britain. The youngsters must now shout for their country otherwise they will not have one! Notice the phrase 'the mainland' has been dropped for the moment. We are islanders, defend it, complain, harrass and vote the socialists out. The system only works for the leaders, certainly not the serfs.

Oh! how I agree with both of you. My blood run's cold at the thought of anyone being able to find one good word to say about this Labour Government/Party. Those that do certainly cannot have the best interests of this country at heart. Labour has reduced Great Britain to the pits and it can sink no lower - or can it. We will only get our self respect, pride and dignity back when New Labour are sent to the political wilderness.

May I add my voice in agreement - especially over the young people!
I must be asking the wrong youngsters, but all I get is "politics - borrr-ring!"
Have the schools now removed politics (and General Knowledge) from the school curricula?
It would seem so!
Our children are being blindly lead into the fairy-tale land of the EU, with teachers carefully and expensively trained in Common Purpose.
"As ye sow, so shall ye reap" - and won't they reap, in years to come!
We have indeed, had the best 60 years this country has known in centuries.
I now count my self lucky to have lived through this period - because I really do fear for the future of our great country.
