No surprise Brown suffered in polls
Sir - Is it any surprise that Gorden Brown took such a drubbing in the polls. Given the extent of the stealth taxes he has introduced to pay for his so called prudence' it was inevitable.
As Winston Churchill once said: "We contend that for a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle."
Before the Conservatives get too excited just remember that New Labour stole most of their policies to get elected and stay elected. I have not seen anything yet in Conservative policies that would not lead us down the same path we are on now.
It is the failure of New Labour to reject Thatcherite policies that have led them into the trouble they are in now. Policies such as spending billions of taxpayers' money to bail rich banks out of their self-made problems while increasing the taxes on the lower paid in society. Its about time some party started creating a fairer society rather than talking about it.
Terry James,
Pershore.
