SIR - Mr Luff's challenge for me to provide an example of domestic animal circus cruelty in the last five years serves nothing more than to demonstrate his ignorance on this matter.
Sadly, while he may feel vindicated there are no cases of specific horse or dog cruelty within this time. He appears to miss the underlying point I make which is that circuses using any animals merely continue to treat them as objects of profit - with which is partnered cruelty in unnatural training, housing and transportation.
Numerous examples of circus cruelty exist in the public domain and are available from such as the RSPCA, Animal Aid and CAPS. Readers are welcome to review these and reach their own conclusions which I doubt will be in line with Mr Luff's outdated views.
