A DEAF footballer who plays for the Great Britain and England team has been banned from driving for two weeks after being clocked travelling at 112mph on a road near Evesham.

Jamie Clarke was spotted by a police officer after he overtook his vehicle.

The officer followed Clarke for more than a mile along part of the A46 Stratford Road towards Evesham and recorded speeds of between 90 and 112 mph at 11.10pm on April 2.

The 22-year-old, who is a striker for Littleton Football Club, won the Deaf Cham-pions League with St John’s Arsenal this year and has games scheduled for the team and the national squad later this month.

St John’s Arsenal has been nominated deaf sports personality team of the year.

Samantha Webley, prosecuting at Worcester Magis-trates Court, said that Clarke passed PC Barker at speed in his Vauxhall Astra.

She said: “The car was followed for one mile. The lowest speed was 90mph and the highest was 112mph.

“The Astra over took several vehicles during the check.

“The car approached the roundabout with the A435 and slowed enough for the registration to be taken.

“It carried onto the A46 and built up speed to 99mph. The car was then stopped.”

Clarke, of New Street, Bretforton, represented himself in court.

The footballer and part-time model said he regretted the incident: “There is nothing I can say.

“It was a stupid moment. It won’t happen again.”

His dad, who was asked if he could step in during Clarke’s disqualification, said he would work with him to deal with it.

When sentencing District Judge Nigel Cadbury said: “I hope you learn your lesson and I wish you every luck with the football.”

Clarke also had six points added to his license, was ordered to pay a fine of £100, costs of £60 and a victim surcharge of £15.
