A NURSE from Worcester is celebrating 40 years of patient care.
Linda Ford of Wingfield Avenue, Warndon Villages, Worcester, became a nurse when Edward Heath was Britain’s Prime Minister. When she began her work at the age of 22, then called by her maiden name of Linda Hampson, Chuck Berry was on his way to a Christmas number one with My Ding A Ling. Now, as she prepares to celebrate 40 years in the job, Mrs Ford, the outpatients nursing manager at BMI Priory Hospital in Birmingham, says she would happily do it all over again.
Mrs Ford is planning to meet up with five other nurses who qualified at the same time for their own celebration.
She started work at Birmingham Children’s Hospital before moving to the Nuffield Hospital now known as BMI Edgbaston in 1979. She joined BMI Priory four years ago.
She said: “I’ve seen lots of changes since my first days on the ward, not least in the training that young nurses now receive and have maintained my clinical qualifications so I am able to give them help and advice whenever needed. I have a lot of happy memories and have enjoyed every minute. It can be very hard work but I can’t think of any job that could be more rewarding.”
By coincidence, the BMI Priory Hospital is holding its own 30th anniversary celebration at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground on December 2, the date on which Mrs Ford qualified.
