Nearly 60,000 people read the Worcester News every day – and that figure keeps on growing.

That’s the finding of the latest audit into the size of our audience. Independent auditors Jicreg measure readership of the paper plus the online audience to provide an accurate measure of the total number of people reading the paper’s content each day.

The latest figures have just been released in the Jicreg October report and show that on any day the combined print and website audience is 57,588. The weekly readership figure is 78,159.

The largest number of readers still get their news and information from the paper, with nearly 60,000 readers a week.

However, online is growing fast, and a third of our audience is now viewing us purely online.

These figures do not include the hundreds of people who subscribe to the Worcester News’ page-turning e-edition via their PC, laptop, iPhone, iPad, Android phone or on our new Kindle Fire service.

Berrow’s Worcester Journal, which shares the Worcester News website but has its own e-edition, has a total audience of 115,394 a week – 60,000 readers of the paper and 55,000 online. Editor Peter John said: “Reports of the death of newspapers are premature.

These figures show how a huge swathe of the population seek out local news and information from a source they trust – their local newspaper.

“It isn’t a case of paper or website. The Worcester News is now a media company – providing local news, sport, information, opinion and advertising in a wide variety of ways that most suit individual needs.

“We provide news via the paper, our website, Face-book, Twitter, apps and e-editions. It’s the combination of print and online that makes us a powerful voice in and on behalf of our communities.”
