AN award-winning duo will be flying the flag for the United Kingdom at a continental music competition this week.
Becky Tate and Trevor Steger, who make up Malvern’s acoustic and rootsy blues outfit BabaJack, will showcase their sounds at the third European Blues Challenge in Toulouse, France, on Friday.
They were chosen for the event after being named as best band in the BluesMatters writers’ poll, as well as achieving the runner-up spot in the newcomer and album categories.
Becky said: “We're so excited to be representing the UK in Europe for the Blues Challenge this weekend. This is probably the biggest gig we've ever played and we're going to give it everything.”
To stand a chance of bagging another prestigious prize they will perform for 20 minutes in the 1,200 capacity venue Le Bikini at 10.05pm local time.
The winner will be announced at 12.30am the following day, with all 20 bands taking part in a celebratory jam session at 1am and the winners securing performance slots at Blues Sur Seine in France and Norway’s Notodden Bluesfestival.
Their fourth studio album, the Running Man, has been funded thanks to the generosity and support of their fans via a PledgeMusic campaign and is set for release in May.
