A LORRY driver suffered serious head and arm injuries when his vehicle overturned near Droitwich last night.
The 37-year-old man was trapped in his cab for an hour when the HGV turned onto its side.
It happened on the A38 traffic island under Junction Five of the M5 for Droitwich.
An ambulance, rapid response vehicle, paramedic officer, BASICS Doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended.
“Crews arrived to find a HGV that had overturned onto its side,” said a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman.
“The driver of the lorry suffered serious head and arm injuries and was trapped in the cab of his lorry.
“The man was receiving first aid from a passing off-duty fire officer.
“Ambulance staff took over emergency treatment whilst the man was trapped in the vehicle and his condition was stabilised.”
The man was airlifted to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital Major Trauma Unit for further emergency treatment.
Sgt Steve Hastie, who is investigating the crash, said: “The collision had serious consequences for the driver and led to major local disruption at a busy time of the evening.
“If anyone saw the collision, or the lorry in the moments leading up to it, and have yet to speak to an officer, please call West Mercia Police.”
